Silver Foil Used in Sweets Are NOT Vegetarian

At the end of a meal, do you like to eat a pan, sweet, or perfumed sopari? And then if these things are decorated with silver foils, what more can we want? Many sweets also are decorated with silver foils.

The silver foils are not very expensive. They are sold by weight. Ordinarily, you can buy a packet of 160 foils for a price between Rs. 100 to 200. That is, approximately one rupee per foil. Not only the sweets, now a days it is also applied on fruits. Some Ayurvedic medicines also are wrapped in silver foils.

What do you think? - how are these silver foils made? Hold your breath.

They are made by hammering thin sheets of silver in middle of booklets made of a bull's intestines. In other words, after slaughtering a bull, quickly his intestines are removed, and sold to the manufacturers of foils. The skins made of old intestines are of no use. Even one-day-old intestines can not be used, because within a few hours they stiffen.

The foil manufacturer removes blood and stools from the intestines, and cuts them into pieces. Then he puts one piece over another, making a booklet out of it. At his home, or in the factory, he puts one silver (or gold) sheet in-between each page. Then he hammers it hard until those metal sheets turn into thin wafers.

The intestines of bulls are so strong, that even repeated hammering do not destroy them, or they do not let the foils move around inside. Because of the hammering, some tissues of the intestine mix with the foils. After that the foil manufacturer sells the bundle of foils to the sweets manufacturers. Some small foil manufacturers sell the foils to the temples.

This foil is not only dirty, it also is non-veg. Even the meat-eaters do not eat intestines. Use of these foils turn even sweets into non-veg food. A few years ago the Indian Airlines learned about this, and since then stopped using them on the sweets served in their planes.

Pan

By now, a pan-lover vegetarian person may have eaten equivalent of many miles of oxen intestines! For them, here is an another bad news - the Chuna that they apply on pan, also is not vegetarian! That is made from the shells of living insects. These insects are taken from the ocean, killed, and removed from the shell. Then the shells are softened in water, dried, and ground into white powder. When you put this Chuna in your mouth, you are participating in killing of many insects. This is no different from taking life of a goat or a pig. Everyone wants to live, no one likes the pain of death.

How to Play Old Games on New PC

Many old games dont work on new OS like Windows Vista and 7, especially under 64-Bit Edition. But we can still play older games using software like Virtual PC. It emulates a PC environment and we can install & use our software in it.

What We Need:
1. Virtual PC 2007 Software (Get it here)
2. Windows CD or ISO Image (Preferably Windows XP or Depending upon what game you want to play)
3. At Least 4 GB free hard disk space
4. At Least 1 GB of RAM
5. You must be using Windows XP, Vista or 7
6. Game which you want to play :D

Steps:
1. Download and Install Virtual PC 2007 on your PC, choose the appropriate version based on whether you are using 32-Bit or 64-Bit OS.

2. Open Virtual PC 2007.

Click 'New' to make a new Virtual Machine. a Wizard will open, and Click Next
Choose Create a Virtual Machine, and Click Next
Choose File Location (make a folder in any hard disk with most free space), and Click Next
From the List of OS choose the windows version you are installing, and Click Next
Adjust the RAM, Increase it to minimum of 256 MB, and Click Next
Save the Virtual HDD to the folder we created, set size to 10240 MB and Click Next.
Click Finish

3. Open the Virtual PC 2007 main window, Right click the machine we created > Settings > from the list select 'Hardware Visualization' and turn it On > OK
4. From the Virtual PC 2007 main window, select the virtual machine > Start
5. Install your Windows CD (or Mount ISO from CD Menu), from the CD Menu click 'Use Physical Drive'.
6. Windows setup will start, Install Windows like you do normally on a real PC.
7. After you successfully installed Windows, start Windows and from the 'Action' menu install Virtual Machine Additions. and restart the Virtual Machine.
8. Insert the game CD or Mount ISO from the CD Menu and install the game you want to play.
9. Thats All!

More
You can install any Windows version but i prefer Windows 2000 as its very lightweight. If you want to play games like Age of Empires it will work fine in it. If you want to play those old NFS II, III games then they might not work on Windows 2000 or XP, so you will need Windows 98/ME for that.

Howard Robard Hughes Jr. (1905-1976) was arguably the most secretive and self-destructive man ever to win fame in Southern California’s two glamour industries --- movies and aviation. Hughes was certainly an American original, and to many he represented the ultimate unconventional Californian.

The peaks and valleys of his life were startling. As an aviator, he once held every speed record of consequence and was hailed as the world’s greatest flyer, "a second Lindbergh." At various points in his life he owned an international airline, two regional airlines, an aircraft company, a major motion picture studio, mining properties, a tool company, gambling casinos and hotels in Las Vegas, a medical research institute, and a vast amount of real estate; he had built and flown the world’s largest airplane; he had produced and directed "Hell's Angels," a Hollywood film classic.

Yet by the time he died in 1976, under circumstances that can only be described as bizarre, he had become a mentally ill recluse, wasted in body, incoherent in thought, alone in the world except for his doctors and bodyguards. He had squandered millions and brought famous companies to the financial brink. For much of his life, he seemed larger than life, but his end could not have been sadder.

Hughes was born in Houston, Texas, (some historians say Humble, Texas)the son of a flamboyant oil wildcatter, Howard Hughes Sr. Four years after Hughes Jr.’s birth, his father patented a rotary drill bit with 166 cutting edges that penetrated thick rock, revolutionizing oil drilling worldwide. Hughes Sr. and a partner formed what would become the Hughes Tool Company and began leasing the rotary bits to drillers for as much as $30,000 per well. They also bought up patents for other rock bits and devised new drills for the oil industry. The Hughes family was now wealthy.

Hughes Jr. grew up an indifferent student with a liking for mathematics, flying, and things mechanical (he once built a motorcycle from parts taken from his father’s steam engine). He dropped out of Rice Institute in Houston and, through his father’s influence, audited math and engineering classes at Caltech in Pasadena, Calif.

Upon his father’s death in 1924, the 18-year-old Hughes inherited an estate valued at almost $900,000, including 75% of Hughes Tool Company, whose control he assumed a year later. As Otto Friedrich writes in City of Nets, a book about Hollywood in the1940s: "So it was the Hughes Tool Company’s control of an indispensable oil drilling bit that enabled Howard Hughes to imagine himself one of the kings of Hollywood. No matter what he did, no matter how much money he wasted, the Hughes drilling bit would always pay his bills, would always protect him from harm."

Although shy and retiring, Hughes became enamored with the motion picture industry and moved to Los Angeles in 1925. The city was already the world capital of film production. Hughes financed three films of varying quality (one of them won an Academy Award for director Lewis Milestone) before undertaking an epic movie about Royal Air Force fighter pilots in World War I. The film was "Hell’s Angels," which Hughes came to direct as well as produce.

Undeterred by the cost, he acquired the largest private air force in the world -– 87 vintage Spads, Fokkers and Sopwith Camels -– for $560,000, then spent another $400,000 to house and maintain them. He even bought a dirigible to be burned in the film. Hughes personally directed the aerial combat scenes over Mines Field (what is now LAX). Three stunt pilots died in crashes during the filming; Hughes also crashed in his scout plane and was pulled unconscious from the wreckage, his cheekbone crushed. With expenses already exceeding $2 million, Hughes was forced to re-shoot large segments of the film with dialogue to accommodate the advent of talking pictures. And because the female star, Greta Nissen, spoke with a thick and inappropriate Norwegian accent, Hughes cast about for a replacement, finally deciding on a bit actress with platinum blonde hair named Harlean Carpenter, also known as Jean Harlow, the first Hollywood "Blond Bombshell."

The film cost Hughes $3.8 million, a record for the time. Released in 1930, "Hell’s Angels" was a runaway success and set box office records, but it never recovered its costs. ("Hell’s Angels" is now regarded as a Hollywood classic. Among the other films made by Hughes, two receive high marks from critics -- "The Front Page" and "Scarface." His most sensational film, "The Outlaw," starring Jane Russell, was described as "more to be pitied than censored.") In their 1979 book, Empire: the Life, Legend and Madness of Howard Hughes, Donald L. Bartlett and James B. Steele summarize the typical Hughes movie as "rich in entertainment, low on philosophy and message, packed with sex and action."

A boyish Hollywood legend, these were halcyon years for Howard Hughes. As Otto Friedrich writes in City of Nets: "No photographic record of that period would be complete without a picture of the tall, scarred and inarticulate millionaire ambling into some neon-lit nightclub, outfitted in Hollywood’s black-tie uniform and displaying a beautiful blonde on his elbow." Hughes kept company with such stars as Ava Gardner, Katherine Hepburn, Ginger Rogers, Terry Moore and Lana Turner, who once described him as "likable enough but not especially stimulating." (He eventually married, and divorced, actress Jean Peters.)

Throughout his Hollywood years, Hughes maintained his passion for flying. Like the movies, aviation was booming in Southern California, making the region a center for new technology. Hughes was in the thick of it, but unlike other aircraft entrepreneurs, he preferred spending his time in a cockpit rather than a boardroom.

In 1934 he won his first speed title flying a converted Boeing pursuit plane 185 miles per hour. He and a young Caltech engineer, Dick Palmer, then built a plane called the H-1 (featuring a unique retractable landing gear) which Hughes piloted to a new speed record of 352 mph near Santa Ana, Calif. This was in 1935, the year that Hughes founded Hughes Aircraft Company as a division within Hughes Tool Company, operating out of a hangar in Burbank, Calif.

In 1937 he flew from L.A. to Newark, N. J., in 7 hours and 28 minutes, a new coast-to-coast record. That same year he won the Harmon International Trophy as the world’s outstanding aviator and was honored by President Roosevelt in the White House. The following year, 1938, he set an around-the-world record of 3 days, 19 hours and 17 minutes; in the process he cut Charles Lindbergh’s New York-to-Paris record in half. (Radio equipment developed by Hughes Aircraft engineers for this flight would later serve as an entry into the electronics field.) Upon his return, Hughes was given a ticker tape parade down Broadway in New York City. He was at the height of his popularity.

The years of World War II were frustrating years for Hughes, who hoped to transform Hughes Aircraft into a major airplane manufacturer after winning government contracts for two experimental aircraft. All around him, Southern California aircraft manufacturers were producing fleets of new planes. As it turned out, Hughes Aircraft produced armaments, but not a single plane for the war effort.

One contract was for a photo-reconnaissance plane, a prototype of which (the XF-11) crashed in Beverly Hills shortly after the war during a test flight with Hughes at the controls, almost killing him. The other contract was for a plane with which Hughes is forever linked in the public mind -- a troop and cargo carrier made of wood and known by various names (the H-4 Hercules, the Hughes Flying Boat, the "flying lumberyard"), but most popularly as the "Spruce Goose."

When Howard Hughes thought he thought big and he never hesitated to take new directions. Conceived when German U-boats were ravaging Allied shipping in the Atlantic, the "Spruce Goose" was built primarily of birch -- not spruce -– in response to a wartime metal shortage. It had eight engines and the capacity to carry 700 troops or a load of 60 tons. In terms of wingspan (320 feet, which is longer than a football field) and weight (400,000 pounds) it is still the largest plane ever built. The war ended before it was completed. But it was flown -- once -- in Long Beach Harbor on Nov. 2, 1947.

With Hughes at the controls, the Flying Boat achieved a top speed of 80 mph, lifted 70 feet off the water, and flew a mile in less than a minute before making a perfect landing. The plane was then towed to a Terminal Island dry-dock, cocooned inside a giant hangar, and never seen again by the public during Hughes’ lifetime. Hughes’ Summa Corporation spent close to a million dollars a year for the lease and maintenance. After his death, the Flying Boat was put on exhibit in Long Beach Harbor beside the Queen Mary; it has since been moved to McMinnville, Ore., for display in an aircraft museum.

"It was as if he was missing the gene for corporate success," write Bartlett and Steele in their biography of Hughes. In 1948, he bought a controlling interest in RKO Radio Pictures, which he almost brought to ruin with his aberrant management style. He did much the same with Trans World Airlines (TWA), whose controlling interest he bought in 1939. Although he did much to transform TWA into a major international carrier, his secretive ways and quixotic decisions nearly plunged the airline into bankruptcy. In 1966 he was forced to sell his TWA shares after losing a lawsuit that charged him with illegally using the airline to finance other investments. The sale netted Hughes over half a billion dollars. To many, it seemed more like a victory than a defeat.

That same year, 1966, Hughes moved into the Desert Inn Hotel in Las Vegas, which he proceeded to buy (rather than be evicted), along with four other Las Vegas casinos, a radio station, and other Nevada properties. He hired an ex-FBI agent, Robert Maheu, to protect his privacy and keep him out of court, even when his own legal interests were at stake. He had become "the hermit gambling entrepreneur of Las Vegas."

Even before moving to Nevada, while he was living at the Beverly Hills Hotel, Hughes had exhibited alarming behavior. In 1958, he apparently suffered a second mental breakdown, the first having occurred in 1944. Of his days at the Beverly Hills Hotel, Bartlett and Steele write: "Hughes spent almost all his time sitting naked in [his white leather chair] in the center of the living room – an area he called the ‘germ free zone’ – his long legs stretched out on the matching ottoman facing a movie screen, watching one motion picture after another." The same pattern was repeated in Las Vegas, made worse by a drug habit that included both codeine and Valium. (The codeine had first been prescribed to alleviate pain from injuries incurred in the XF-11 plane crash years earlier.)

Although Hughes managed to attend to business and had many periods of lucidity (he held a telephone conference call with reporters in 1972 to repudiate a book by Clifford Irving purporting to be Hughes’ taped reminiscences), his physical health had turned precarious. A doctor who examined him in 1973 likened his condition to prisoners he had seen in Japanese prison camps during World War II. That same year, ironically, Hughes was inducted into the Aviation Hall of Fame in Dayton, Ohio. He was represented by a member of his 1938 around-the-world flight crew. One of the inductees defended Hughes, calling him "a modest, retiring, lonely genius, often misunderstood, sometimes misrepresented and libeled by malicious associates and greedy little men."

In the final chapter of his life, Hughes left Las Vegas for the Bahamas where he stayed until he moved to Mexico, reportedly to have greater access to codeine.

(X-rays taken during the Hughes autopsy show fragments of hypodermic needles broken off in his arms.) He died of apparent heart failure on an airplane carrying him from Acapulco to a hospital in Houston.

"Such was the mystery and power surrounding his life that when he was pronounced dead on arrival at Methodist Hospital in Houston, Texas, on April 5, 1976, his fingerprints were lifted by a technician from the Harris County Medical Examiner’s Office and forwarded to the Federal Bureau of Investigation in Washington," write Bartlett and Steele. "Secretary of the Treasury William E. Simon, for federal tax purposes, wanted to be sure that the dead man was indeed Howard Hughes. After comparing the fingerprints with those taken from Hughes in 1942, the FBI confirmed the identity." He had not been seen publicly or photographed for 20 years.

Howard Hughes’ greatest legacy to Southern California is the family of Hughes companies founded during his lifetime. These include Hughes Aircraft Co. (1935) and Hughes Space and Communications Co. (1961), a unit of Hughes Electronics Corp. Based in Westchester, Calif., Hughes Space and Communications is the world’s largest manufacturer of commercial satellites, the designer and builder of the world’s first synchronous communications satellite, Syncom, and the producer of nearly 40% of the satellites now in commercial service. Hughes Electronics is owned by General Motors. Hughes Aircraft merged with Raytheon Company in 1998 and is now called Raytheon Systems Co. Prior to the merger, Hughes Aircraft was a world leader in high technology systems for scientific, military and global applications.

All the technological prowess of these Hughes companies would almost certainly have pleased their founder, who always had a passion for building things.

An elephant's trunk has the strength to uproot a tree as well as the finesse to pick up a needle.

Ganesha's trunk symbolises the fact that the wise person has both immense strength and fine discrimination. Ganesha has large ears. The wise person hears all. He has four hands. In one hand he holds a lotus, the symbol of enlightenment. In the other hand he holds a hatchet. That is, the old karma, all your sanskars, the accumulated good and bad of past deeds get cut when enlightenment comes.

The third hand holds laddus, the round sweet-meats. They are the rewards of a wise life. Ganesha is never shown eating the laddus. The wise man never partakes of the rewards of his deeds. He is not attached to them. The fourth hand is shown blessing the people. The wise man wishes the best for everyone.

Ganesha has only one tusk; the other is shown broken. There is an interesting story as to how Ganesh happened to get an elephant's head and how one tusk got broken. The symbolism of the broken tusk is that the wise person is beyond duality.

We tend to think that we end when our bodies end in the material world. We are the first person. All else is different. This duality is created by the mind which creates the ego to help us survive in this world. This 'me-other' duality is the screen keeping us from realising our real Self, which is beyond body and mind. Once we transcend this duality, we see the entire Universe as a single whole and we become aware of our true Selves. The single tusk of Ganesha symbolises this non-duality. Wisdom allows us to see all as one and ourselves an integral part of the whole.

Ganesha is shown sitting with one foot on the ground and the other resting on his knee, above the ground. The wise person is of this earth, yet not entirely of this earth.

Ganesha is shown seated on a rat. The reason for saying that Ganesha 'rides' on the rat is that the rat is among the greediest of all animals. It will keep nibbling at whatever is available, eating everything it can. Scientifically, too, the rat's teeth keep growing and it has to keep chewing on something to keep these within limits. The rat is a symbol of our senses, which are never satisfied. They crave new experiences, new tastes. Left uncontrolled, they keep growing forever. The wise person rides on his senses. He keeps them under control.

Ganesha is often shown seated in front of a tray of sweets. In these images the rat is shown sitting in front of Ganesha, perhaps a bit to one side, looking up at him. The senses of the wise person are under his control and the rat dare not eat the sweets without the permission of Ganesha.

Ganesha is the son of Shiva and Parvati, the God governing the life-force and the earth-mother. This symbolises the spirit and body of the wise person. Finally, the wise person has the dignity of an elephant.

When we say "Aum Ganeshaya Namah" before starting anything what we are saying is that "In what we are about to do, let wisdom be our guide". In a sense, Ganesha is our most powerful god, and he is usually remembered before starting any rituals for other deities.

What's new pussycat? The dolphin who made friends with a curious tiger

Like a cat peering into a goldfish bowl, Akaasha the tiger cub is transfixed by a dolphin staring back at her.

Curiosity got the better of both Akaasha and Mavrick, a 14-month-old dolphin who's probably more used to a crowd of human faces gazing into his glass tank at a Californian theme park.

Staff were taking six-month-old Akaasha on her daily walk around the Six Flags Discovery Kingdom when she saw Mavrick, a 14-month-old Atlantic bottlenose dolphin.

The pair examined each other from all angles possible - then the dolphin blew an approving bout of bubbles towards the tiger.

Staff were taking Akaasha, who is a six-month-old female tiger cub, on her daily walk around the theme park when she noticed Mavrick, who is a 14-month-old Atlantic bottlenose dolphin yesterday.

Snout to whiskers: Their shared curiousity meant Mavrick dipped down to get a better view and Akaasha strained to get closer to the glass

Mavrick cocked his head as Akaasha strained to get closer to the glass, perhaps bewildered as to why she could not catch the scent of this strange new creature grinning at her from another world.

It may be the start of a beautiful friendship.

Six Flags Discovery Kingdom staff recently made an introduction that would never have taken place in the wild.

Akaasha, a 6-month-old female Bengal tiger, is taken on a daily walk around the park. On Thursday, her stroll took her past the bottlenose dolphin exhibit, where she had an up-close-and-personal encounter with some Atlantic bottlenose dolphins.

Story About Vegetarianism

This is a short but true story about Loura, a 13 year old girl.

Loura was a young girl who lived with her Parents in Moscow. During school holidays, she would visit her grandmother who lives in a village nearby. Grandmother had a farmhouse which Loura used to love a lot. The farmhouse would be full of hens, turkeys, sheep, goats, cows, rabbits etc. Loura visited her grand mom’s place during the summer holidays and of course she had a great time in the farmhouse. This time, she noticed a cute rabbit which had a good mix of browns and white color. She named him “Pickoo”. Soon, they became close friends and when ever Loura would call “Pickoo” he would draw towards her. Loura used to talk to Pickoo as if he was her true friend. Loura had to get back to her parents due to some emergency. Before leaving from her grandmother’s place she promised Pickoo that she will come back within a week’s time.

One week later…

Loura visited her grandmom’s place along with her parents. On this occasion, her grandmother had prepared varieties of dishes for lunch and Loura enjoyed each and every scoop of it. Immediately after the lunch, she headed towards the farmhouse in search of Pickoo. To her surprise, she didn’t find him. Loura ran to her grandma and asked her where is “Pickoo”? Grandma replied with a gulp, “You had him for Lunch today”. Loura couldn’t believe it. She was shocked. She cursed her grandmother, her parents and herself for this. Probably, this was the most unforgettable moment in her life where she was directly or indirectly responsible for her friend’s brutal death.

Loura was terribly hurt with this incident. She transformed herself into vegetarianism with a promise that she will never ever depend on another life for her living.

I really wish that all non-vegetarians living in this earth, learn their lesson in the same way like Loura did and try to “live and let live”

Chinese are the best Xerox Machines in the World!!!

Many Chinese manufacturers are also following this easy way of producing cheap cars by imitating successful designs. The Chinese market is often called 'The Gray Market', simply because of their stunning replicas. But hey! These are very good copies of the originals!

One Chinese car company Shuanghuan was banned for selling its BMW X5 look alike called the 'CEO' in the EU and fined a hefty sum. Even cars like the Chevrolet Spark (Geely, China), the Smart fortwo, have not been spared.

1. Chevrolet Spark vs Chery QQ
The QQ became the center of an industrial copyright and intellectual rights controversy, as General Motors claimed the car was a copy to the Daewoo Matiz (which is marketed outside South Korea as the Chevrolet Spark). GM executives demonstrated the extent of the design duplication, noting for example that the doors of the QQ and those of the Spark are interchangeable without modification. This one was so extreme, some parts of one car fit into the other (e.g. door panel, bonnet etc). GM China Group indicated the two vehicles "shared remarkably identical body structure, exterior design, interior design and key components."

12. China Automobile's Chika vs Tata Nano

The Chika was showcased at the Paris Motor Show, as an attempt to show to the world that China has arrived to the low cost automobile party and to intimidate the Nano. Designed by Li Shi Guang Ming, one of China's best known car designers, the Chika aims to facilitate personal mobility in crowded cities.

We don't see it as a threat to the Tata Nano, just because its an electric car, but its a cute little thing. Whether the Chika is destined for big things, and whether it will get the same kind of attention from the worldwide automotive press as the Tata Nano did earlier, remains to be seen.

13. Geely Panda vs 2009 Suzuki Alto

We think the Geely Panda is the result of a Chinese man's world tour. Take a look at this car, you will surely think of the new Alto. Its shaped exactly like the Alto. This car has Italian eyes,a Korean mouth, Japanese Body, Italian name, finally a Chinese mother.

The Headlamps have been lifted straight from the newly launched Alfa MiTo. Body shape – well thats from the new Alto. Rear from Toyota Aygo, Engine and front grille from some Korean car(which we could'nt care about), and named after Fiat Panda. Just look at the interiors, a circular central console- never seen anything like it, looks very funky though. Overall, its a great balanced mixture of good looking small cars.

14. Great Wall Florid vs Toyota Yaris & Suzuki Swift

Here's the ultimate copy car. We are quite that at first glance, you would have had trouble, in distinguishing cars in the left from those in the right. The pictures in the left are the front and rear views of Great Wall Florid (What a name!!). In the right top, we have the Toyota Yaris below which is the Suzuki Swift. Now its time for criticism!!

Check out the front Grille. The company badge is in the same place, which is ok, but the curve indent below the badge is not. We think, they have just cut a Yaris in half, and have used the front portion.

To distinguish this car from the Yaris, the designers had come up with a brilliant plan. Once again, they cut another car in half, this time a Swift, and have used its read. What a great idea! No wonder Chinese cars are cheap.

They don't have to spend much hiring designers to designing cars, instead they buy sheets of tracing paper, a scaning machine and a printer, Job done. New car in no time! There has been no sense of imagination at all, when it comes to the design of this car. Now that's what we call a copy car!

28 दिनों का ये इलाज ख़ासतौर से कंप्यूटर गेम और सोशल नेटवर्किंग वेबसाइटों के दीवाने हो चुके ऐसे युवाओं के लिए है जिन्हें लगता है कि उनका जीवन इंटरनेट के बिना नहीं चल सकता.

इंटरनेट का लत पाल चुके युवाओं के जीवन की बाकी गतिविधियां प्रभावित होती हैं.

ऐसे युवा इंटरनेट से वंचित होने पर चिड़चिड़े हो जाते हैं. ऐसी लत ऑनलाइन गेम जैसी चीजों में बढ़ जाती है जहां पर गेम खत्म होने का नाम ही नहीं लेता.

लंदन स्थित कैपियो नाइटिंगल अस्पताल में ये इलाज शुरू किया है डॉ. रिचर्ड ग्राहम ने. डॉक्टर ग्राहम कहते हैं,"इस तरह की लत से आपके जीवन के बाकी क्षेत्र प्रभावित हो सकते हैं. जीवन की बाकी गतिविधियों में शामिल होने की युवाओं की क्षमता प्रभावित हो सकती है."

हालाँकि डॉक्टर ग्राहम ने साथ ही बताया कि ऐसा नहीं है कि इलाज के बाद आप एकदम से इंटरनेट का इस्तेमाल ही बंद कर देंगे.

निराशाजनक व्यवहार
दक्षिण पूर्वी एशिया में ऑनलाइन गैम्बलिंग क्लिनिक पहले ही बड़ी संख्या में मौजूद हैं.

इस इलाके में लोग वर्चुअल वर्ल्ड पर काफी समय नष्ट करते हैं. नतीजतन लोगों के असल जीवन में ढेर सारी समस्याएं पैदा हो रही हैं. इस बारे में सबसे हाल का मिसाल दक्षिण कोरिया के एक दंपत्ति का है. यह दंपत्ति 12-12 घंटे तक ऑनलाइन गेम खेल रहा था जबकि उनके बच्चे ने भूख से दम तोड़ दिया.

इलाज के तीन चरण

डॉक्टर ग्राहम ने इलाज को तीन चरणों में तैयार किया है.

शुरुआत में साइकोथैरेपी के जरिए रोगी के मसलों को सुलझाया जाता है.

अगला चरण है इंटरनेट के साथ लत को कमजोर करना और इसे खत्म करने के लिए प्रोत्साहित करना.

आखिरी चरण में रोगी को व्यायाम करने और परिवार-दोस्तों के बीच समय गुजारने के लिए प्रोत्साहित किया जाता है.

अवसाद बढ़ाता इंटरनेट
ब्रिटेन के वैज्ञानिकों का कहना है कि इंटरनेट पर ज़्यादा समय बिताने वाले लोगों के अवसाद ग्रस्त होने का ख़तरा ज़्यादा रहता है.

इस बारे में ‘साइकोपैथोलॉजी’ नाम की पत्रिका में छपी एक रिपोर्ट में कहा गया है कि जिन लोगों पर ये सर्वे किया गया वे इंटरनेट के आदी थे और इनमें से 1.2 फीसद डिप्रेशन का शिकार थे.

ब्रिटन के लीड्स विश्वविद्यालय के वैज्ञानिकों ने ये नतीजे ऑनलाइन पर दिए प्रश्नपत्र के 1,319 जवाबों के आधार पर निकाले हैं.

जवाब देने वाले 18 व्यक्ति यानी 1.2 फीसदी इंटरनेट के आदी थे. जवाब देने वालों का आयुवर्ग 16 से 51 वर्ष के बीच था.

अँधेरा पक्ष
वैज्ञानिकों का कहना है कि इंटरनेट के कुछ उपभोक्ता तो इंटरनेट के इतने आदी हैं कि वास्तविक जीवन में लोगों से मिलने जुलने की जगह, वे ऑनलाइन चैटरूम्स और सोशल नेटवर्किंग साइट्स पर वक़्त बिताना ज़्यादा पसंद करते हैं.

"आधुनिक जीवन में इंटरनेट की बहुत बड़ी भूमिका है, लेकिन इसके फ़ायदों के साथ एक अँधेरा पक्ष बी जुड़ा हुआ है. हममें से अधिकतर लोग जहां इंटरनेट का इस्तेमाल ख़रीदारी, बिलों के भुगतान और ईमेल आदि के लिए करते हैं वहीं कुछ लोग ऐसे भी हैं जो इंटरनेट पर इतना समय बिताते हैं कि उनकी रोज़मर्रा के कामकाज पर भी उसका असर पड़ने लगता है" - डॉ कैटिरयोना मौरिसंस, रिपोर् लेखिका

वैज्ञीनिकों की इस टीम की प्रमुख डॉक्टर कैटरियोना मौरिसंस का कहना है, "आधुनिक जीवन में इंटरनेट की बहुत बड़ी भूमिका है, लेकिन इसके फ़ायदों के साथ एक अँधेरा पक्ष भी जुड़ा हुआ है. हममें से अधिकतर लोग जहां इंटरनेट का इस्तेमाल ख़रीदारी, बिलों के भुगतान और ईमेल आदि के लिए करते हैं वहीं कुछ लोग ऐसे भी हैं जो इंटरनेट पर इतना समय बिताते हैं कि उनकी रोज़मर्रा के कामकाज पर भी उसका असर पड़ने लगता है."

रिपोर्ट में बताया गया है कि इंटरनेट के आदि लोग उन लोगों के मुकाबले लगभग पाँच गुना ज़्यादा अवसादग्रस्त होते हैं, जो ज़रूरी होने पर ही इंटरनेट का इस्तेमाल करते हैं.

लंदन के किंग्स कॉलेज के मनोविज्ञान विभाग के डॉ वॉहन बैल ने इस समस्या के कारण और प्रभाव पर सवाल उठाते हुए कहा है कि इसी विषय पर आई पिछली रिपोर्ट में ये कहा गया था कि पहले से ही अवसाद ग्रस्त या उत्सुक क़िस्म के लोग इंटरनेट का ज़्यादा इस्तेमाल करते हैं.

"कुछ अवसादग्रस्त और जिज्ञासु क़िस्म के लोग होते हैं जो अपनी सारी ज़िंदगी इंटरनेट पर समय बिताते हैं लेकिन ऐसे ही कुछ औऱ लोग भी हैं, जो बहुत ज़्यादा टीवी देखते हैं या पुस्तकों में अपने को डुबो देते हैं या ख़रीदारी की अति कर देते हैं इसलिए ऐसो कोई प्रमाम नहीं हैं जिनसे पता चले कि सम्स्या की असली जड़ इंटरनेट है" - डॉ वॉहन बैल, मनोवैज्ञानिक, किंग्स कॉलेज, लंदन

अपनी इस दलील के पक्ष में डॉ वॉहन बैल ने आगे बताया, "कुछ अवसादग्रस्त और जिज्ञासु क़िस्म के लोग होते हैं जो अपनी सारी ज़िंदगी इंटरनेट पर समय बिताते हैं लेकिन ऐसे ही कुछ और लोग भी हैं, जो बहुत ज़्यादा टीवी देखते हैं या पुस्तकों में अपने को डुबो देते हैं या ख़रीदारी की अति कर देते हैं इसलिए ऐसा कोई प्रमाण नहीं हैं जिनसे पता चले कि समस्या की असली जड़ इंटरनेट है."

इस ताज़ा अनुसंधान के आलोचकों का ये भी कहना है कि इंटरनेट के आदी होने या न होने के बीच के अंतर को जान पाना इतना आसान नहीं है क्योंकि ये भी हो सकता है कि जिन लोगों पर सर्वे किया गया, वे पक्षपातपूर्ण तरीक़े से चुने गए हों.

A little bird was flying south for the winter. It was so cold the bird froze and fell to the ground into a large field. While he was lying there, a cow came by and dropped some dung on him. As the frozen bird lay there in the pile of cow dung, he began to realize how warm he was. The dung was actually thawing him out! He lay there all warm and happy, and soon began to sing for joy. A passing cat heard the bird singing and came to investigate. Following the sound, the cat discovered the bird under the pile of cow dung, and promptly dug him out and ate him.

Moral of the story:
1. Not everyone who shit on you is your enemy
2. Not everyone who gets you out of shit is your friend
3. And when you’re in deep shit, it’s best to keep your mouth shut!

LONDON: You may have no other option than to use shared computers in your office or at an Internet cafe, but a new study has revealed that these terminals are breeding grounds for germs.

Researchers have found that shared computers are hot beds for bacteria and hot-desking in the office can even cause workers to become ill -- in fact, shared keyboards may contain five times the number of microorganisms as those used by one.

Lead author Enzo Palombo was quoted by leading British newspaper 'The Daily Telegraph' as saying: "High use, multiple user Internet cafes and computer labs are potential hot spots for harbouring microorganisms."

The researchers have based their findings after an analysis on computers -- in tests, almost half of keyboards harboured the bacterium Staphylococcus aureus which, although usually harmless when it is on the skin, can lead to serious infections if it enters the body. Swabs showed it was present on only one-fifth of single-use keyboards, they said.

According to the researchers warn that the risk of infection was high if the equipment was not thoroughly cleaned. Given that computers are not routinely disinfected, the potential for transmitting disease is great.

"Organisations need to be more rigorous in keeping shared equipment clean. Keyboards and other hand contact areas such as a computer mouse should be regularly cleaned and disinfected, especially for multiple-user workstations," Prof Palombo of Swinburne University of Technology said.
